Any person over the age of 18 may seek membership in this Department and is required to fill out an application of this department. Such application shall be given to a member in good standing for presentation to the Department at the monthly business meeting.
Qualifications and Admission
A. Qualifications
1. Minimum of 18 years of age.
2. Possess a valid Florida Operator's License, or if the person is in the military service a valid license from any state.
3. Be in good health and be able to pass a physical as required by Brevard County Fire Rescue, except Associate Member applicants.
4. Reside in the area served by the Department. Exceptions may be granted to an applicant if by virtue of special training, interest, and/or other circumstances the applicant could be an asset to the Department. These exceptions may be granted by the President/Fire Chief with the concurrence of the simple majority of the membership. Nothing in this section shall be construed to preclude admittance to anyone regardless of race, creed, sex, age or national origin.
5. Must not have been convicted of a felony or greater conviction.
6. Must consent to a background investigation including drivers license.
B. Admission
The Department membership shall be limited to 50 active members.
1. All applicants for active membership will be notified that they must be present for the application to be read. Following the reading of the application, the applicant will be required to serve a probationary period usually 180 days.
Probationary Membership
During the probationary period the applicant must attend a minimum of 75% of the non-social functions (drills, trainings, work details, meetings and schools). Such probationary members shall follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of the Department. Upon completion of the probationary period applicants will be tested in the areas of basic fire fighting, equipment location and use, and other areas identified by the chief officers. If warranted, the officers may recommend to the membership that certain of these requirements be waived for the applicant. All basic requirements must be completed before active membership is voted on.
When all of the probationary requirements are completed, the Membership Committee and the elected officers of the Department will submit a report on the applicant to the membership. If the applicant receives a majority of votes of the members present and voting, the applicant shall be declared member of the Department.

(Please be advised you will also need to submit a copy of your driver's license and social security card. The application cannot and will not be processed without these two documents. Include with you application copies of all certificates related to Fire Rescue.)
